      Traditional training methods often require large scale field exercises, vast amounts of resources, and can only be performed at limited times a year. This program ties together a didactic curriculum, manikin simulation, and Virtual Reality training to give learners "hands-on" experience in dealing with a variety of clinical situations that might be encountered in a mass casualty situation.

    • SimTiki advanced cardiac life support HeartCode program ( Training service )

      Expected Time of Completion
      Part I: You will have 32 continuous hours to complete the scenarios and exams. The timer starts once you begin a scenario. Experienced Practitioners report a completion time of 4 hours or so.
      Part II: 1 hour.

      Part II Skills (Completed at SimTiki Simulation Center - approx 1 hour):

      1. The manikin based skills station will allow objective assessment of practitioner mask ventilation and compression techniques.

      Required Materials:

      1. HeartCode ACLS Anywhere CD (provided upon completed registration).
      2. Windows based personal computer (PC) to run the HeartCode ACLS CD.
      Software minimum requirements:
      * Windows 98, 2000, or Windows XP 32 bit

      Test Dates / Times
      Part I: At your leisure. Participant completes the exams/scenarios as part of the HeartCode ACLS Anywhere CD tasks. You may view the AHA text on the CD without starting the timer. Once a scenario is started on the CD, the timer begins a countdown allowing 32 hours to complete all exams and scenarios.
      Part II: The Skills portion is completed at SimTiki Simulation Center by appointment.

      Grading Policy
      Part I: An online grading score of 85% is passing.
      Part II: The Manikin based PC skills station is pre-configured to assess adequate mask ventilation and intubation techniques.

      Successful completion of Part I and Part II will result in

      1. ACLS card mailed to Participant.
      2. Certificate of attendance.
      3. Award of CME credits.

      CME
      The completion of both portions of the SimTiki ACLS HeartCode course is accredited for 12 Physician CME credits or 14 Nursing CME credits through the online grading system.

      "This course is not focused on leaders, but teams who need to complete a set of tasks in rapid order in an effort to save patients' lives. Groups of about 15 individuals from a variety of disciplines will complete pre-course materials (a slide show and a pretest), participate in a simulator program with facilitated debriefing, and complete post course assessments. Trainees will understand the rationale for crisis team training, where it fits into a quality patient safety program, fundamentals of teamwork (with emphasis on cooperation and communication), and the importance of practice. They will confront a series of different crisis event so they can learn the underlying principles of team function.

      CME CREDIT

      The HCCME designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
      Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

      To claim CME credit participants must complete the online self directed learning content at www.simtiki.org, following registration for the course. Attendance at the scheduled Crisis Team Training Session is required. Completion of the course evaluation will be completed following the scheduled on-site educational activity. Course evaluation can be completed on-site using available internet workstations, or can be completed off-site using a personal internet access workstation.

      "The course is comprised of an online pre-course self directed learning module. The course curriculum is designed for first responders of any professional medical background (EMT-B, EMTI, EMT-P/MICT, MD, RN, RT) who may manage emergency airways.       "STATT is a two day simulation based program for military first responders and other health care providers.       Advanced human patient simulators, and Technology Enabled Learning Systems "TELIS©" are utilized throughout the course. Participants will review clinical management of life threatening injury patterns associated with trauma. Hemorrhagic shock, tension pneumothorax, head injury, respiratory failure, airway management (basic and advanced), triage principles and practice, and resuscitation are the core subjects covered in this curriculum.     • UHPG - UHIMRP medical crisis simulation challenge course ( Training service )

      "The UHIMRP Medical Crisis Simulation Competition, aka Sim Wars Hawaii, is a one half day course at the UH SimTiki Simulation Center at the UH JABSOM Kakaako Campus. The purpose of this competition is to review and teach the basic concepts of team leadership in a medical crisis situation. Instead of standard simulation course, this course will be conducted in the “Sim Wars” competition format. “Sim Wars is an interactive simulation competition that allows teams of clinical providers to compete against each other on simulated patient encounters in front of large audiences. The competition allows teams to demonstrate their communication, leadership, and clinical decision making skills. “

      A simulated clinical environment will be created for this competition and is produced in a supportive but competitive atmosphere. Residents will be organized into teams. Teams will be paired up and each be given the chance to run a simulated medical crisis situation. Teams will be judged on their performance and advanced based on the judges’ opinion. The format will be a single elimination tournament."
