   "The purpose of this course is to provide a basic foundation of how to recognize...[an unstable patient at high risk for cardiac arrest], begin treatment of their problems, and become a better functioning member of the acute treatment team. Course Goals: At the end of the course the MS3 will be able to: * Identify a patient in medical crisis. * Appropriately call for help. * Assist in the initial resuscitation efforts until code team arrives. This course is NOT meant to be a replacement for BLS or ACLS. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the trainee will be able to: * Understand the concept of crisis resource management skills for managing medical crisis situations including assigning specific tasks and closed loop communication. * Understand the roles of the various members of the Cardiac Arrest Team (Code Blue Team). * Create an environment for resuscitation including patient positioning, placement of cardiac monitors and pulse oximetry, and ensuring presence of crash cart. * Recognize, initially assess, and begin support of a patient in respiratory failure. * Show competency in basic airway skills in particular administering supplemental Oxygen and showing proper Bag Valve Mask Technique. * Recognize, initially assess and being support of a patient with altered mental status, including treatment of common reversible causes. * Recognize, initially assess, and treat patient with hypotension. * Recognize pulseless VT/VF, begin CPR and deliver defibrillation."
